Thriving in Uncertainty: WPO’s COE Week Puts Psychological Safety at the Forefront

WPO’s Center for Organizational Effectiveness (COE) Week equipped leaders with the tools to tackle burnout and build resilient, wellbeing-focused teams.

Turnover, burnout, and disengagement have begun to define modern workplaces – and with rising global tensions and the looming possibility of conflict, this uncertainty is only expected to grow. Yet fewer than 20% of companies conduct regular psychosocial risk assessments. As workplaces navigate volatile, high-pressure environments, this gap highlights why psychological safety is a business imperative — not just a buzzword.

In response to these challenges, Workplace Options’ Center for Organizational Effectiveness (COE) hosted Thriving in Uncertainty: Leadership and Wellbeing in Turbulent Times from June 9–12 — a four-day virtual summit filled with actionable strategies to reduce burnout and cultivate wellbeing-first workplaces. This event drew strong engagement, with more than 1,000 registrants and over 400 unique attendees participating in sessions throughout the week.

“Embedding wellbeing and psychological safety into the DNA of team dynamics is more than just a strategy—it’s a leadership imperative. Especially in today’s uncertain and fast-changing workforce, employees look to leaders to create environments where they feel safe to bring their authentic selves. When that happens, leaders unlock the potential for individuals and businesses to truly thrive.” – Alan King, CEO of Workplace Options

Attendees heard from WPO’s own leadership and global experts, including Kurt Merriweather, VP of Employee Engagement Solutions; Oliver Brecht, VP and General Manager of Enterprise Solutions, Donald Thompson, Managing Director of the COE and more. Sessions combined data-driven insights and practical strategies to help organizations shift from pressure to purpose.

Sessions like “Leadership’s Role in Combating Burnout and Building Sustainable Work Culture” with Oliver Brecht, and “Building Resilient Systems: Policies and Practices to Mitigate Psychosocial Harm” with Vanessa Ezerzer, Noémie Léger, and Carole Da Silva from WPO France Consulting, moderated by Christian Mainguy Senior Global Consultant of WPO France, drew particularly strong engagement. This response highlighted the growing demand for actionable guidance on navigating unstable, high-stress environments while fostering psychological safety.

Key themes of the summit included:

  • Strategies to prevent burnout and build team resilience
  • Global insights from leading workplace wellbeing experts
  • Practical models for embedding psychological safety in everyday leadership
  • Case-driven approaches to managing workplace psychosocial risks

Designed as a one-stop resource hub, the COE Week summit equipped leaders with people-centered, wellbeing-driven strategies that can be immediately applied. Armed with data from resources such as WPO’s 2025 Psychological Safety Study, and the joint IIRSM-WPO report, The Impact of Psychological Safety on Employee Engagement and Risk Management, alongside practical tools and industry expertise, attendees left the summit better prepared to recognize early signs of burnout, reduce psychosocial risks, and foster cultures of trust — before challenges escalate.

Workplace Options and its Center for Organizational Effectiveness remain committed to nurturing employee wellbeing worldwide. COE Week is part of an ongoing effort to bring leaders the tools and insights they need to create thriving, psychologically safe work environments.
